Let’s Do the Ark!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

There are times when we wished for courage, but do we ever get it ? In the movie ‘Evan Almighty’, it is said that when you wish for courage, the Great Spirit will not give you courage; instead the Great Spirit will give you opportunity to be courageous. In other words, you will have to pass through enough of ‘scary’ situation before you become courageous. Isn’t it logical?

Same goes with, when you wish for wealth; the Great Spirit will give you opportunities to acquire wealth. This is so much inline with the ‘Law of attraction’ mentioned in the show and book titled ‘the Secret’. So be careful of what you wish for, it will come true. Or rather be clear of what you wish for, or else opportunity is probably already knocking at your door now, but you can’t hear it or worst, you were caught undressed.

As a business person, I believe I must always be ready for the biggest deal of my life. Of course there are times, when I was caught without adequate preparations, and somehow I had to rise to the occasion, using whatever I resources I had at my disposal at that moment in time. If I succeed then it would be a sweet ending, but if I don’t, it would be an opportunity for me to get prepared for an even bigger deal. Opportunities usually are disguised as problems, don’t you agree ?

In the show, Congressman Baxter (Steve Carell) prays to the God to help him to change the world. His wife prayed for a closer knit family. One day, God (Morgan Freeman) appears and told him that a great flood is coming and he needs to build an Ark to save a pair of each animal and as many people as he could.

The poor fellow became the laughing stock among his neighbours, the congress and the entire nation. They all thought he went ‘gila’. His wife took the kids and left their new house in a car to back to the in-laws …. Sounds familiar to some of you ? Along the highway, she stopped by a restaurant for dinner. Then God appeared as a waiter and asks her why she looked so sad. After listening to her, the waiter explained……

When you pray for courage, God doesn’t just give you courage. He gives you the OPPORTUNITY to become courageous. When you pray for your family to become closer, God doesn’t give you that fuzzy warm feeling. Instead, you are given the OPPORTUNITY to become closer and stronger. After listening to the ‘waiter’, she felt that she had turn to back, because she realised that it is in this time of difficulty that lay the opportunity for the family to become closer. So she and the kids went back to Baxter to help him build the Ark. When Baxter asked God why was he CHOSEN to build the Ark, God replied that it was because he prayed to ‘Change the World’. ‘But how can I change the world?’ he asked. God replied, ‘We can all change the world by performing A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS (ARK) everyday.

When you ask for confidence, God will not make you confident. Instead, you will be given opportunities to build your self confidence. Maybe, there is a chance for you to volunteer as a leader, give a speech, stand up to a bully etc…

If you want love, you will not have people coming up to you and give you hugs. Instead, you can start to notice opportunities where you can give your love and kindness to others. So, let’s change the world with one act of random kindness at a time…Let’s do the ARK!!!!

The Reason

First of all, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the people who have trusted me and supported me to be their insurance estate planner. Every person count, because it is the trust given to me that gives me the encouragement to be the best I can be in this industry.

This is a blog site dedicated to all the intelligent people who are seeking knowledge to be empowered to plan for their future. It is deliberately written in a way, so that Malaysians, from all walks of life will be able to gain such knowledge with ease. in the course of my research, I have reviewed many sites, read loads of books and attended months of seminars on matters relating to financial planning, and I find most of them are too technical for the ‘man in the street’ or even professionals outside the financial planning industry.

This is the reason why I have decided to set the tone of this site, as layman as possible. This is to ensure that all readers can benefit from the knowledge presented.

The main objective of this blog is to improve the personal financial literacy of the Malaysia public. Based on my observation, when comes to learning laws of the country and financial matters, it is like ’learning the traffic rules through accidence”. Both are equally deadly and costly.

My blog will serve as a guide and helping people to start questioning and begin their journey towards making better informed choices.

Cheers!
